ABOUT US

Purpose

  • To assist those who are approaching retirement and recent retirees to make the transition to retirement.
  • To address the social, emotional and financial aspects of retirement through a holistic approach.
  • To recognize and utilize the expertise of retirees in helping others make the transition to retirement.

History

  • A Health Canada grant in 1994 - 1997 initiated the program.
  • Run by a volunteer Board of Directors.

Training

  • Presenters are trained in experiential learning and everyone participates in the sessions.
  • Presenters come from all walks of life and draw on their area of expertise (Nurses-health, accounting and finance)

Staff Support

  • Peer Helper Co-ordinator hours are shared with two other Peer based groups- S.H.A.R.E.(senior helpers aiding retirees through experience) and New Beginnings (bereavement support)

Funding

  • The ministry of Health supports this program along with the City of Kitchener’s Department of Community Services.
